Culinary Contours

Client

Student project

Year

2024

The brief for the module was to conceptualize and design title for Arts and Cultural programme.

Taking inspiration from my favorite cooking shows, I decided to make something based on travel and food. Partly historic through trade routes, the show is about how trades and history influenced the culinary culture of places.

Inspiration idea board culinary cultures

Some books and TV show inspirations to create a hypothetical concept

moodboard arts and culture

Made a moodboard with images that has elements of “things organised neatly” and textures of food

Font explorations for title

Some font explorations making it look more historic and classical with vintage look

Culinary contours exploration 2

Explored with the big C to invoke the food element to the arrangement of letters. C like a bite of mouth which felt very aggressive for the tone of the show, instead choose to extend the tail of Y taking reference from the sauce drip done while plating the dish and have a slurpy feel to it.

Book reference
Vintage references

Referred a book to find some vintage elements and motifs to add in the history touch.

Elements used for the poster
Elements used for the poster

For the poster I shortlisted an impossible bottle that symbolizes the historic trade routes that carried around the produce from one place to the other influencing the food and culture around it. Also added filters and textures to give it an old rustic look. Added extra text with Catamaran bold and extra bold font for contrast.

Final poster
Power of ten short film
Culinary cultures social media post

Taking inspiration from Charles and Ray Eames's film for IBM "Powers of Ten" which goes from micro to macro, designed a small post for social media purposes that blends in the texture of food to landscapes of the world.
